Special Olympics is a sports organization for children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities. Starting in 2004, MAC Residential Services, Inc. organized our first Special Olympics team! The founding Athletes and Coaches named our team the MAC Rockets. Our mission is to help our residents practice and train to succeed in the many Special Olympics competitions. We are dedicated to helping our athletes engage and interact with their community in a fun, collaborative way.
MAC's Special Olympic Athletes participate in a variety of sporting events throughout the year. Annually they are active in the Special Olympics Maine Summer and Winter Games where they compete and earn medals in events such as snow shoeing, track and field, Bocce, Golf, and Bowling. The team also attends non-competitive events like Disc Golf and camping trips.

The MAC Rockets are also very active in fundraising endeavors for Special Olympics Maine by participating in events like "To Serve and Protect" donation collections at local Circle K stores. MAC Rockets Athletes host the Madison Anson Days kick off event, "Backyard Farms Charity Dynamite Cook-Off". With the money raised we are able to purchase needed uniforms and gear as well as send MAC Rockets to the Special Olympics Maine Winter and Summer Games, where our Athletes get to show off our team's pride. All of these events are a great chance for our Athletes to foster team spirit, engage in the community, and have fun.
